The Last of Us Part II Remastered runs at 60 FPS in Performance mode on PS5, or 30 FPS in Fidelity on 60 Hz output. Stream Performance at 60 FPS with PlayRoam for aiming and dodges. Pro frame generation can display 120 FPS motion on a 120 Hz or faster screen, but the game and your controls remain at the console's real frame rate.

Performance and Fidelity on PS5

The mode figures come from Naughty Dog's display-mode guide and Digital Foundry's PS5 analysis. Performance renders at 1440p, with output up to 4K. Fidelity renders native 4K. Digital Foundry found a steady 60 FPS in Performance through large firefights, and a near-perfect 30 FPS lock in Fidelity. Cutscene camera cuts can hold a frame in both.

The gap is mostly resolution, rather than a different set of expensive visual effects. Fidelity resolves fine detail more sharply, including grass. Digital Foundry found very few changes to other settings between modes. Since Remote Play sends at most 1080p, giving up real 60 FPS just for native 4K is a harder bargain here than it looks on a TV.

There is a 40 FPS path too, but it needs the right settings. Enable 120 Hz output, leave VRR off and turn on Unlocked Framerate in the game. Fidelity then targets 40 FPS, with occasional drops around demanding effects. With 120 Hz and VRR enabled, Digital Foundry measured roughly 40-60 FPS in Fidelity and 75-100 FPS in Performance. These are variable rates, not fixed 120 FPS modes.

PS5 Pro keeps the old modes

Patch 1.2.0 added Pro mode: 1440p rendering, PSSR reconstruction to 4K and a 60 FPS target. Performance and Fidelity remain available, with more headroom when their frame rates are unlocked on compatible displays. The official patch notes do not give measured Pro ranges, so the table does not reuse the base PS5's numbers for them.

Use Pro at a capped 60 FPS when streaming from PS5 Pro. Its reconstructed console image can make the 1080p stream look cleaner, but the stream limit is still 1080p60. On an ordinary PS5, Performance is the comparable choice for timing rather than image reconstruction.

Why No Return makes 60 FPS the better starting point

No Return puts short combat encounters on a route toward a boss, and death ends the run. Losing a run because a dodge or shot felt late is a poor trade for sharper grass. Start with real 60 FPS and boost disabled, then decide if smoother displayed motion is worth generation's added delay.

From a 60 FPS stream, generation adds roughly 8 ms plus processing. The app shows the measured Added delay. On a 120 Hz or faster screen, try 60 → 120 FPS motion while moving through an area you know. Compare aiming as well as the camera pan; those are different tests. Our frame generation guide explains why the extra displayed frames don't accelerate the controls.

If you prefer Fidelity for a story replay, a 30 FPS stream can become 30 → 60 FPS motion on any 60 Hz screen. That adds about 17 ms plus processing and keeps 30 FPS input response. Do not select 40 FPS Fidelity for this purpose: 40 doesn't divide evenly into a 30 or 60 FPS stream. Leave unlocked modes off so frame generation receives a steady cadence.

Set up a 60 FPS stream on Windows

Choose Performance on PS5, or Pro on PS5 Pro, and disable Unlocked Framerate. In PlayRoam, select Source → Local network at home, then Resolution 1080p and Frame rate 60 FPS. Local streaming is free with a PlayRoam account. Source → Over the internet requires Pro and works with PS5 only.

For generated motion on a 120 Hz or faster monitor, choose FPS boost → 2× FSR in the Picture tab. It requires Pro and works on any DirectX 11 graphics card. The output card shows 60 → 120 FPS. On a 60 Hz monitor, keep the real 60 FPS stream instead of expecting to see 120 distinct frames.

Upscaling → FSR 1 can sharpen 1080p on a 1440p or 4K monitor; it cannot recover all of Fidelity's original detail. If the whole stream feels late, read how to reduce Remote Play lag before blaming the game's rendering mode.

No Return on Android

On a 120 Hz phone, PlayRoam Pro tries 60 → 120 from the Performance stream and tells you if it cannot keep up. Fidelity streamed at 30 FPS gives the reliable 30 → 60 generation option with Pro and a Vulkan 1.3 graphics chip. For combat, you may prefer an ungenerated 60 FPS stream.

Android accepts any gamepad it recognises, and touch controls are editable. Check Android frame generation requirements. Choose Fit if Fill cuts off information at the edges during an encounter.

Questions and answers

Is The Last of Us Part II Remastered 60 FPS on PS5?

Yes. Performance mode renders at 1440p with a 60 FPS target. Fidelity renders native 4K at 30 FPS on 60 Hz output. Digital Foundry found both modes very stable.

Does The Last of Us Part II Remastered have a 40 FPS mode?

With 120 Hz output enabled, VRR off and Unlocked Framerate on, Fidelity targets 40 FPS. With VRR enabled, Fidelity and Performance can run at variable unlocked frame rates.

What does Pro mode change on PS5 Pro?

Pro mode renders at 1440p and uses PSSR to reconstruct a 4K picture at a 60 FPS target. Performance and Fidelity remain available. A Remote Play stream is still limited to 1080p60.

Can PlayRoam show The Last of Us Part II at 120 FPS?

PlayRoam Pro can display a 60 FPS stream with 120 FPS motion on a 120 Hz or faster screen. The console game and controls stay at their real frame rate, and generation adds delay.
