Alan Wake 2: Quality mode at 60 FPS on your PC

Alan Wake 2 is one of the heaviest games on PS5. Quality mode renders at about 1270p and upscales to 4K at 30 FPS; Performance mode drops to about 847p, upscaled to 1440p, and thins out the forests to hold 60 FPS. How Alan Wake 2 runs on PS5

Quality mode uses FSR 2 to reach a 4K output from roughly 1270p. It mostly holds 30 FPS, especially indoors, with small dips in some outdoor areas.

Performance mode also uses FSR 2, from roughly 847p to a 1440p output. It's a largely solid 60 FPS indoors and dips toward 50 FPS in demanding outdoor areas. Beyond resolution, the biggest cut is foliage density, which matters in a game set in the woods of Bright Falls. Both modes look a little soft, and the FSR 2 upscaling shows aliasing, more so in Performance mode.

What PlayRoam changes

• Quality mode at 60 FPS motion. Stream at 30 fps; frame generation fills in the gaps. Slow pans through Cauldron Lake's forest are where 30 FPS judder is most visible, and where generation helps most.
• A cleaner upscale. PlayRoam's upscaler works from Quality mode's richer image. On a 1440p monitor that's a better starting point than Performance mode's 847p.

Recommended PlayRoam settings

• Game mode: Quality.
• Stream: 1080p at 30 fps, frame generation 2×.
• Connection: Local network, PS5 on Ethernet; dark scenes with fine detail benefit from a high-bitrate stream.
