Demon's Souls on PS5 runs at 60 FPS in Performance mode or 30 FPS in Cinematic mode. Performance renders at 1440p before upscaling; Cinematic uses native 4K. Choose Performance for PlayRoam's 60 FPS stream. On a 120 Hz or faster screen, Pro frame generation can show 120 FPS motion without changing the game's real 60 FPS combat.
What you give up in Performance mode
These figures come from Bluepoint's Digital Foundry interview, reported by Wccftech. Cinematic has somewhat more detailed shadows and tessellation, but Bluepoint aimed for a similar look in both modes. The choice is less dramatic than a switch that removes an entire lighting effect.
Cinematic's native 4K image is worth inspecting on a TV connected to the console. Remote Play is limited to 1080p at 30 or 60 FPS, so your PC or phone doesn't receive that native 4K picture. Performance starts above the stream's resolution limit already, while retaining twice as many real game frames.
The remake launched on November 12, 2020 in North America, with Europe following on November 19. This page covers that PS5 remake, not the original PS3 release.
PS5 Pro adds another 60 FPS choice
Patch 1.005 added PSSR upscaling to 4K at a 60 FPS target, plus material-displaced contact shadows for dynamic lights. The ElAnalistaDeBits comparison identifies the option as PS5 Pro and confirms that Performance and Cinematic remain available on the newer console.
Choose PS5 Pro mode if you own that console. Its sharper source image can make the 1080p stream look cleaner, but that is a possible benefit, not a measured PlayRoam result. The stream still stops at 1080p60. Neither a Pro console nor a 4K monitor changes that ceiling.
Keep real frames for combat
The official game page stresses when to attack and when to wait, with missed swings costing you souls. That is a good reason to retain Performance's real 60 FPS rather than use Cinematic with generated 60 FPS motion. They may share a displayed frame count, but the game's input updates are different.
For solo exploration, try 60 → 120 generation if your screen runs at 120 Hz or faster. It can make camera movement look smoother. For invasions or a fight where a late dodge keeps costing you progress, compare against the ordinary 60 FPS stream with generation disabled.
Generation adds about 8 ms plus processing time at 60 FPS. The game's combat and your inputs stay at 60 FPS, and Added delay shows the measured generation cost. Bloodborne has the opposite constraint: its official console version has no real 60 FPS mode to choose. Read the frame-generation guide before treating either output number as a console upgrade.
Set up the Windows stream
Select Performance in the game on a regular PS5, or PS5 Pro mode on Pro. In PlayRoam, use Source → Local network, Resolution 1080p and Frame rate 60 FPS. Local streaming is free with an account. Away from home, Source → Over the internet requires Pro and PS5.
In the Picture tab, FPS boost → 2× FSR needs Pro and works on any DirectX 11 graphics card. Use it for 60 → 120 only with a 120 Hz or faster monitor. On a 60 Hz display, keep the 60 FPS stream without generation. Upscaling → FSR 1 can sharpen it for a 1440p or 4K monitor, but cannot recreate the console's full-resolution picture.
On Android, start with 60 FPS
Keep Performance and a 60 FPS stream for combat. A 120 Hz phone can try Pro generation for 60 → 120; the app reports if it cannot keep up. A 30 FPS stream for 30 → 60 is the reliable generation fallback, with Pro and a Vulkan 1.3 graphics chip. Accept its higher delay rather than expecting the same response as 60 FPS. The Android generation guide covers that choice. Use Fit when you want the whole game picture visible and a gamepad Android recognises for consistent controls.
Questions and answers
Is Demon's Souls 60 FPS on PS5?
Yes. The 2020 remake's Performance mode runs at 60 FPS and renders at 1440p before temporal upscaling. Cinematic mode uses native 4K at 30 FPS.
What does Demon's Souls change on PS5 Pro?
Patch 1.005 adds the PS5 Pro graphics mode, with PSSR upscaling to 4K at a 60 FPS target and material-displaced contact shadows. The original modes remain available.
Can I stream Demon's Souls at 120 FPS?
Remote Play tops out at 60 FPS. PlayRoam Pro can show a 60 FPS stream with 120 FPS motion on a 120 Hz or faster screen, while the console game stays at 60 FPS.
Should I use Cinematic mode for Remote Play?
Performance is the better starting point for combat because you keep real 60 FPS gameplay. Cinematic uses a 30 FPS stream; generated 60 FPS motion does not give it Performance mode's input updates.
