Elden Ring's native PS5 version reaches up to 60 FPS in Prioritize Frame Rate, but it does not hold that rate. For a steadier PlayRoam stream, use the PS4 version on PS5 at close to 60 FPS. Pro frame generation can display that 60 FPS stream with 120 FPS motion on a 120 Hz or faster screen; it does not speed up your dodges.
What the PS5 graphics choices actually do
Mode figures come from PSFoundry's PS5 breakdown, 80 Level's report of Digital Foundry's ray-tracing test and RPG Site's August 2026 comparison. The original game launched on February 25, 2022. This page covers Elden Ring, not Nightreign.
Prioritize Frame Rate uses a dynamic 1512p to 2160p resolution and an unlocked frame rate capped at 60 FPS. Prioritize Resolution keeps native 4K but is also unlocked, often around 40 FPS. It is not a deliberately paced 40 FPS balanced mode.
The ray-tracing option arrived in patch 1.09. It adds shadows and ambient occlusion, but drops rendering to roughly 1560p to 1620p. Digital Foundry's test found that it could fall below 30 FPS. The nicer shading around grass and dungeon corners is a poor trade for a stream when it costs you consistent movement.
PS5 Pro runs the same game through Game Boost, without a dedicated Pro patch or new mode. It gets closer to 60 in Prioritize Frame Rate. RPG Site's current comparison still finds it unlocked, rather than a fixed 60 FPS. VRR helps a compatible TV connected to the console; it does not make the Remote Play source steady.
Choose consistency before generated frames
The PS4 build on PS5 uses checkerboard 1800p and fewer visual details, with longer loads than the native PS5 build. Its near-steady 60 FPS is why it is our streaming recommendation. PlayStation confirms that a digital PS5 purchase also lets you download the PS4 version.
Remote Play sends at most 1080p60. Some of the native version's resolution advantage is therefore lost before the picture reaches your screen, while its uneven frame delivery remains visible. Generation doubles what arrives; it cannot fix a console frame that was late.
For boss attempts, start with generation off. You want to learn the timing of a dodge or parry without adding another delay. On a 120 Hz or faster monitor, try 60 → 120 motion for horseback exploration, then compare it in combat. Generation adds about 8 ms plus processing at a 60 FPS source rate. Your attacks, physics and inputs still follow the console frames. Demon's Souls is worth comparing if you want a different take on the performance-versus-resolution choice.
Windows settings for the Lands Between
Launch the PS4 edition on your PS5 before starting the stream. If you stay with the native PS5 edition, select Prioritize Frame Rate and turn ray tracing off; expect dips rather than a promised 60 FPS lock.
- Choose Source → Local network and set Resolution to 1080p, with Frame rate at 60 FPS.
- Leave frame generation off for the first combat session. With Pro and a 120 Hz or faster monitor, try FPS boost → 2× FSR on Windows.
- Read Added delay when you compare the two. The Windows boost works on any DirectX 11 graphics card.
- Try Upscaling → FSR 1 on a 1440p or 4K monitor. It cannot restore detail absent from the stream.
Local streaming is free with an account. Source → Over the internet needs Pro and a PS5. Before blaming a missed dodge on graphics mode, follow how to reduce Remote Play lag.
Keep the phone's limits separate
On Android, use the same 60 FPS source from the PS4 build. Pro generation needs Vulkan 1.3 and tries 60 → 120 on a 120 Hz phone screen. If the phone cannot keep up, the app tells you. A 30 FPS stream with 30 → 60 generation is the reliable fallback, but it gives up half the received frames from this game.
Any gamepad Android recognises works; touch controls are editable. See Android frame generation for the hardware requirements. Use Fit rather than Fill if cropping hides the health or stamina information you need during combat.
Questions and answers
Is Elden Ring 60 FPS on PS5?
The native PS5 version targets up to 60 FPS with an unlocked frame rate, but Prioritize Frame Rate does not sustain it. The PS4 version running on PS5 is the steadier option near 60 FPS.
Does Elden Ring have a 120 FPS mode on PS5?
No. Its console modes top out at 60 FPS. PlayRoam can display a 60 FPS stream with 120 FPS motion on a 120 Hz or faster screen, without changing the game's frame rate.
Does PS5 Pro fix Elden Ring's frame rate?
PS5 Pro improves performance through Game Boost, but the native PS5 version still does not lock to 60 FPS. There is no dedicated Pro patch or Pro-specific graphics mode.
Can I download the PS4 version with a digital PS5 purchase?
Yes. PlayStation says buyers of the digital PS5 version can also download the PS4 version at no additional cost.
