How to play GTA 6 at 60 FPS

Updated October 3, 2026 · 3 min read

GTA 6 runs at 30 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch, and Rockstar hasn't announced a 60 FPS mode. You can't make the console render more frames, but you can see 60 FPS motion on your PC: stream your PS5 with PlayRoam and its frame generation creates a new frame between every two the console sends.

What Rockstar has said about GTA 6's frame rate

During press previews, Rockstar North said the console versions of GTA 6 run at 30 frames per second "for now". There is no official resolution or performance chart yet, and no performance mode was shown. The extended gameplay footage from previews was captured at 30 FPS on a standard PS5.

"For now" leaves the door open to a patch, but there is no date and no promise. If a 60 FPS or 40 FPS mode arrives later, it will almost certainly cost resolution or detail, the way performance modes do in other open-world games.

Will the PS5 Pro run GTA 6 at 60 FPS?

Rockstar hasn't announced PS5 Pro enhancements for GTA 6. Coverage of the previews treats a native 60 FPS mode on PS5 Pro as unlikely at launch. If you're buying a PS5 Pro specifically for GTA 6 at 60 FPS, wait for an official statement.

How to get 60 FPS motion in GTA 6 today

The console renders 30 frames each second. PlayRoam receives that stream on your PC and uses your graphics card to generate an extra frame between each pair, so your monitor shows 60 frames per second. It also upscales the stream to your monitor's resolution, which keeps the city sharp on a 1440p or 4K screen.

What you need

  • A PS5 or PS5 Pro with GTA 6 installed and Remote Play turned on.
  • A Windows 10 or 11 PC with a dedicated graphics card, connected to the same network as the console (or a capture card).
  • A PlayRoam subscription.

Step by step

  1. On the PS5, open Settings → System → Remote Play and turn on Enable Remote Play. To start sessions from rest mode, enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning On PS5 from Network under Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode.
  2. Connect the PS5 to your router with an Ethernet cable. Use Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi on the PC.
  3. Install PlayRoam, sign in and choose Local network.
  4. Pick your PS5 from the console list. Set the stream to 1080p and 30 fps: GTA 6 renders 30 frames per second, so a 60 fps stream would only repeat each frame, and repeated frames give frame generation nothing to work with.
  5. Turn on Wake console if the PS5 is in rest mode. The output panel shows what you'll get, for example 1440p · 60 fps from 1080p · 30 fps with upscaling and 2× generation.
  6. Press Start, launch GTA 6 from the PS5 home screen and play with your controller connected to the PC.

What to expect

  • Smoother camera and driving. Panning across Vice City and high-speed driving benefit the most from the doubled frame rate.
  • A sharper picture. The Remote Play stream from a PS5 tops out at 1080p; upscaling on your PC cleans up edges and text on bigger monitors.
  • Occasional artifacts. Fast-moving thin objects and on-screen text can show small artifacts in generated frames. They're brief and usually unnoticed at 60 FPS.
  • Network matters. A wired console and a stable home network keep the stream clean. Over the internet, picture quality depends on the upload speed where the console is.

Should you wait for a 60 FPS patch instead?

If you play on a TV and only care about native frames, waiting costs nothing. If you play at a desk, streaming with frame generation gets you 60 FPS motion on day one without giving up the 30 FPS mode's image quality, and it will still work if Rockstar adds a performance mode later.

Frequently asked questions

Does GTA 6 run at 60 FPS on PS5?

No. Rockstar North has said the PS5 and Xbox versions run at 30 FPS for now. There is no confirmed 60 FPS or performance mode at launch.

Will the PS5 Pro run GTA 6 at 60 FPS?

Rockstar hasn't announced PS5 Pro enhancements. Until it does, plan for 30 FPS on every console.

Can I get 60 FPS in GTA 6 without a PC version?

You can get 60 FPS motion on your PC monitor by streaming your PS5 with PlayRoam, which generates a new frame between every two the console sends. The console itself still renders 30 FPS.

Does frame generation add input lag in GTA 6?

A little, because each generated frame needs the next real frame first. For driving and exploring an open world most players find the smoother motion worth it; you can switch it off at any time.

When does GTA 6 come out?

November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version hasn't been announced.
