How to play GTA 6 on PC before the PC version

Updated October 3, 2026 · 2 min read

GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Rockstar hasn't announced a PC version. If you own a PS5, you can still play it on your PC monitor: stream the console to your PC with PlayRoam, which also upscales the picture and can show it at 60 FPS.

Why there's no PC version yet

Rockstar releases its big games on consoles first. GTA V reached PC about 18 months after its original console launch, and Red Dead Redemption 2 about a year after. Nothing official exists for GTA 6 on PC: no date, no system requirements, no pre-orders. Any date you see is a guess.

Your options for playing on a PC screen

  1. Connect the console directly to your monitor. Simple, but you lose your PC setup while playing, and the console still outputs 30 FPS.
  2. Stream with PS Remote Play. Free and official, up to 1080p at the console's frame rate. A good start if your monitor is 1080p.
  3. Stream with PlayRoam. Built on the same Remote Play connection, plus upscaling to 1440p or 4K and frame generation that turns GTA 6's 30 FPS into 60 FPS motion.

How to set it up with PlayRoam

  1. On your PS5 turn on Remote Play: Settings → System → Remote Play → Enable Remote Play.
  2. Allow waking from rest mode: Settings → System → Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode, then enable staying connected to the internet and turning on the PS5 from the network.
  3. Connect the PS5 with Ethernet; put the PC on Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
  4. Download PlayRoam, sign in, choose Local network and pick your console.
  5. Set the stream to 1080p and 30 fps (GTA 6 renders 30 frames, so a 60 fps stream would only repeat them). Turn on Wake console if the PS5 sleeps in rest mode.
  6. Check the output panel, which should show about 60 fps with 2× generation, press Start, connect a controller to the PC and launch GTA 6.

Away from home? Choose Over the internet: PlayRoam reaches your PS5 through PlayStation Network. Read how to play your PS5 over the internet for the network requirements.

What it feels like

You get GTA 6 in a window or full screen on your monitor, upscaled for its resolution, with motion at 60 FPS when frame generation is on. The game still runs on the console at 30 FPS; generated frames make camera movement and driving smoother but add a small amount of latency. Details are in how to play GTA 6 at 60 FPS.

When a PC version arrives

If Rockstar releases GTA 6 on PC, you'll be able to run it natively with your own settings. Until then, streaming your console is the only way to play on your PC, and your progress lives on the console you already own.

See how the game performs on each console on the GTA 6 page, or compare PlayRoam and PS Remote Play.

Frequently asked questions

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?

Rockstar hasn't announced a PC version or date. Previous Rockstar games reached PC about one to one and a half years after their console release, but that is history, not a promise.

Can I play GTA 6 on PC without owning a console?

Not today. Streaming needs a PS5 or Xbox that runs the game; PlayRoam streams from a console you own.

Is streaming GTA 6 from a PS5 to a PC laggy?

On a wired home network the added latency is small, comparable to PS Remote Play. Playing over the internet adds latency that depends on your connection.

Can I use my PC keyboard and mouse?

Use a controller connected to your PC. GTA 6 on console is played with a gamepad, and a DualSense or compatible controller gives the best experience.
