Record PS5 controller macros on Windows with PlayRoam Pro

By the PlayRoam team · Updated October 9, 2026 · 3 min read

You can record PS5 macros on PC with PlayRoam Pro on Windows, then replay the controller inputs from a key, mouse button or wheel trigger. Choose Once, While held or Toggle for playback. There is no step editor, so you record again when a sequence needs different inputs or timing.

Use macros for repetition, not competitive play

A macro repeats controller input you have recorded. Use it for a repetitive single-player task, or as an accessibility aid when a short sequence asks for more repeated presses than you want to perform manually. Start with a small, predictable action that you can test safely.

Your recording captures timed controller states, including buttons, triggers and both sticks. Playback repeats those inputs with the same timing, so record a sequence suited to a predictable game situation.

Many online games forbid macros. Check the rules for your game and mode before using automation, including for accessibility.

Epic's Fortnite Code of Conduct requires fair play and prohibits cheating and exploits. It says consequences can reach a permanent ban.

Record a sequence during a live stream

Home-network Remote Play and physical controller support are free with a PlayRoam account. Pro costs $10 per month and turns repeated single-player controller sequences into one-trigger actions on Windows.

Have a working stream first. The Windows PS5 Remote Play setup guide covers linking and starting the console connection.

  1. Start the live stream and open Controls. Move to a safe place in the game where you can perform the action without unwanted consequences.
  2. Select Record, then perform the controller sequence you want to repeat. Recording captures your live merged input, so use the controls you intend to record.
  3. Select Recording… Stop when the sequence is finished. PlayRoam saves it with a name such as Macro 1 and shows its duration in seconds.
  4. Rename the macro so you can recognise the action. Under Trigger, select Set trigger and assign a key, mouse button or wheel direction.
  5. Set Mode to Once for your first test. Return to the live picture and trigger the recording in the same game situation you used to record it.

Choose when playback repeats

Once plays the recording once for each trigger. It is a sensible first choice for a short menu sequence or another action you want to request individually.

While held repeats while you hold the trigger. Choose a key or mouse button you can comfortably hold for the task. Use a wheel direction when you want a brief trigger input instead.

Toggle repeats after you activate the trigger and stops when you activate it again. Check one complete playback, then keep the assigned trigger within reach so you can stop repetition when the game situation changes.

Each macro has one trigger. Assigning an input already used by another macro clears it from that other macro. A macro trigger also takes priority over a normal binding on the same input. If a game action stops working after you create a macro, check that conflict before recording another sequence.

Why a trigger may not respond

PlayRoam's note says: "Key triggers work in the picture; mouse ones while it's captured." Bring the live picture to the front before testing a key trigger. For a mouse trigger, make sure the mouse is captured by the picture.

If you also use keyboard mapping, the keyboard and mouse guide explains capture and the reserved inputs. Tab, Escape and F11 belong to PlayRoam, rather than your game bindings.

A capture-card picture needs a controller connection too. Select a linked console under Controller → Play on. Without that route, the app asks you to link the controller to a console before recording. See the capture-card setup guide for that separate picture-and-control arrangement.

Correct a recording by recording it again

You can rename a saved macro, change Trigger or Mode, and delete it with ×. To change its inputs or timing, record a replacement sequence and remove the old version once you have the sequence you want.

Playback combines with your live input. Buttons combine, triggers use the stronger value and pushed macro sticks can override live stick movement. Test without extra input first so you can tell what the recording itself does. Start playback in the game situation your sequence was recorded for.

Questions and answers

Can I make PS5 macros on PC?

Yes. PlayRoam Pro on Windows records controller inputs during a live stream and lets you play them with a key, mouse button or wheel trigger. It does not change the game's own controls or rules.

How do I record a PS5 controller macro?

Start a stream, open Controls and select Record. Perform the sequence, stop recording, then set Trigger and choose Once, While held or Toggle.

Can I edit individual steps in a PlayRoam macro?

No. You can rename a macro, change its trigger or mode, and delete it, but there is no step editor. Record the sequence again if its inputs or timing need to change.

Can I use PS5 macros in Fortnite or other online games?

Do not assume you can. Many online games forbid macros, and the game's rules still apply when you play through PlayRoam. Check the game's rules before using any automation.
