How to set up PS5 Remote Play on Android
Updated October 8, 2026 · 3 min read
PlayRoam streams your PS5 or PS4 to an Android phone, tablet or Android TV. Playing at home is free with a PlayRoam account, including 1080p and controller support. Pro adds frame generation, FSR upscaling and PS5 play over the internet.
Before you start
You need Android 8.0 or later, a console with current system software, and access to its PSN account. PS Plus isn't required. Keep an internet connection even at home: PlayRoam checks the license every five minutes.
Get the app through Google Play, as linked from the Android app page; don't confuse Sony's PS Remote Play listing with PlayRoam's.
Connect the console to the router with Ethernet if possible. Put the Android device on the same home network, preferably 5 GHz Wi-Fi, for this first local setup.
Enable Remote Play on the console
On PS5, open Settings → System → Remote Play and turn on Enable Remote Play. Under Settings → System → Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode, enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning On PS5 from Network.
On PS4, open Settings → Remote Play Connection Settings and enable Remote Play. Under Settings → Account Management → Activate as Your Primary PS4, activate that console. For wake, open Settings → Power Save Settings → Set Features Available in Rest Mode and enable staying connected to the internet and turning on PS4 from the network.
Link your console in PlayRoam
- Sign in to your free PlayRoam account in the app. This is separate from your PSN account.
- Choose the local-network connection and sign in to PlayStation Network with the account you use on the console. Keep the console fully on for pairing.
- Select the console and press the app's Link button.
- On PS5, get the 8-digit code from Settings → System → Remote Play → Pair Device. On PS4, use Settings → Remote Play Connection Settings → Add Device. Enter it in PlayRoam before it expires.
- Select stream quality and press Start. Once linked, Start can wake the console from rest mode with the settings above enabled.
If discovery finds nothing, Android can add a console by IP address. Find its local address in the console's network status. The Pair Device troubleshooting guide walks through that and guest-network problems.
Good starting settings
- Use 1080p at 60 FPS for a game running in a 60 FPS performance mode. Both are Free features.
- Use 1080p at 30 FPS for a 30 FPS quality mode. With Pro and a Vulkan 1.3 GPU, frame generation can display it at 60 FPS.
- Choose Fit to see the whole picture. Choose Fill to cover a wide phone screen by cropping the edges, never stretching. Fit versus Fill explains the trade-off.
- Use a gamepad for action games, or edit the on-screen controller. PlayStation, Xbox and Custom layouts let you move, hide and resize controls from 0.6 to 1.6 times their size, with opacity and auto-hide options.
- Check connection stats when the stream stutters. Drop to 720p on a busy network before adding picture processing.
What Free and Pro include
Free covers local PS5 and PS4 streaming, wake, Android-recognised gamepads, rumble on Android 12+, the touch-controller editor, Fit and Fill, adding by IP and connection stats.
Pro adds 30 → 60 FPS frame generation and FSR 1 scaling with sharpening on a Vulkan 1.3 GPU. It also adds PS5 internet play through PSN, using IPv4 with no port forwarding. Some networks block the direct connection; there is no relay. One subscription covers Android and Windows. Get Pro on playroam.gg; it works in the Android app. See current plans rather than assuming a trial is available.
Limits worth knowing
PlayRoam has no microphone or voice chat and no HDR over Remote Play. The Android app is English only and has no keyboard/mouse input, gyro, touchpad surface or adaptive triggers. Android TV works with a gamepad, but don't expect a TV-specific interface as polished as the phone layout.
Frequently asked questions
Is PS5 Remote Play on Android free with PlayRoam?
Yes. A free PlayRoam account includes PS5 and PS4 home-network streaming at 720p or 1080p, at 30 or 60 FPS, gamepads, touch controls and rest-mode wake.
Which Android version does PlayRoam need?
Android 8.0 or later. Frame generation and FSR upscaling also need a Vulkan 1.3 GPU and Pro. Android TV works with a gamepad, but its interface is basic.
Do I need PS Plus or an internet connection at home?
PS Plus is not required. You need a PSN account and a PlayRoam account. Internet access is required even on your home network because the license is checked every five minutes.
Can I buy Pro inside the Android app?
No. The Android app sells nothing and has no purchase or pricing links. Get Pro on playroam.gg, then sign in with that account on Android or Windows.
