PS5 Pair Device and PS4 Add Device: Remote Play setup
Updated October 8, 2026 · 3 min read
Sony's current console menus are Pair Device on PS5 and Add Device on PS4. The button you press in PlayRoam is still called Link. These refer to the same local-pairing step: get a code on the console and enter it in the app.
Pair a PS5 on your home network
- Keep the PS5 fully on and connect your PC or Android device to the same home network. Ethernet on the console and Wi-Fi on the phone are fine when both reach the same LAN.
- On the PS5, open Settings → System → Remote Play and enable Remote Play for the user you want to play as.
- Sign in to your PlayRoam account, then sign in to PlayStation Network inside PlayRoam using the account you use on that console. The two accounts serve different purposes.
- In the console's Remote Play menu, choose Pair Device. Keep the displayed 8-digit code visible.
- Choose the local-network console in PlayRoam, press Link, and enter the code before it expires. If it has expired, generate a fresh one rather than retrying the old code.
- Pick 720p or 1080p, and 30 or 60 FPS to match the game. Press Start.
Free includes this local setup on Windows and Android. A PlayRoam account and internet access are required even at home; the license is checked every five minutes. PS Plus is not required.
Add a PS4
On PS4, use Settings → Remote Play Connection Settings → Enable Remote Play, then Add Device in that same menu. Enter its code through PlayRoam's Link button.
Also open Settings → Account Management → Activate as Your Primary PS4 and activate the console for that account. Use the matching PSN account in PlayRoam. PS4 is supported on the home network, not in PlayRoam's internet mode.
If the console isn't found
Work through these before changing picture settings:
- Check that the console is fully on for the first pairing, has current system software and has Remote Play enabled.
- Put both devices on the same LAN. A guest Wi-Fi network may isolate devices even when its name looks similar to your main network. Turn off a VPN while diagnosing local discovery.
- Check the PSN account. Use the account that is present on the console, not a different household member's sign-in.
- On Windows, allow PlayRoam through the firewall for your trusted home network. Don't disable the firewall altogether.
- Generate a fresh code if pairing fails after waiting. Pair Device or Add Device must be open for the code you enter.
Add the console by IP on Android
Android's add by IP address option helps when local discovery doesn't list the console. On PS5, find its local address under Settings → Network → Connection Status → View Connection Status. On PS4, use Settings → Network → View Connection Status.
Enter that local IP address in PlayRoam's add-console option, then use Link with the console's pairing code. This does not bypass pairing, network isolation or a wrong PSN account. It is not a way to connect from outside your home by entering your router's public IP.
If the address changes later, check it again in the console settings. A router DHCP reservation can keep the console on the same local address.
Wake from rest mode after linking
For PS5, open Settings → System → Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode. Enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning On PS5 from Network.
For PS4, open Settings → Power Save Settings → Set Features Available in Rest Mode. Enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning On PS4 from Network.
Leave the console in rest mode, not fully shut down. After linking, Start in PlayRoam can wake it when those settings are enabled. If it works while on but fails from rest mode, check the wake settings before pairing again.
Local pairing is different from internet play
Pro's PS5 internet mode uses PSN sign-in with the console's account and needs no prior home-network connection or Link code. It uses IPv4 without port forwarding, and some strict NAT or managed networks can block the direct connection. There is no relay fallback.
See playing PS5 over the internet for that setup, Android setup for phone controls and quality, or Remote Play lag fixes if pairing works but the stream stutters.
Frequently asked questions
Where is Pair Device on PS5?
Open Settings, System, Remote Play, then Pair Device. Enable Remote Play first. The console shows the code to enter in PlayRoam using its Link button.
Why doesn't my PS4 have a Pair Device menu?
On PS4 the menu is called Add Device, under Settings, Remote Play Connection Settings. It provides the code for local pairing, just as Pair Device does on PS5.
What if PlayRoam can't find my console?
Keep the console on and both devices on the same home network, not an isolated guest network. Enable Remote Play and use the console's PSN account. On Android, you can also add the console by its local IP address.
Do I need to pair at home before internet play?
No. PlayRoam Pro's PS5 internet mode uses PSN sign-in with the console's account and doesn't require a prior local link. It uses IPv4 and a direct connection; some networks block it.
