Turn on your PS5 remotely from rest mode

You can turn on your PS5 remotely from rest mode after enabling its network wake settings; a fully powered-off console cannot be woken by Remote Play. PlayRoam wakes a linked console on your home network for free when you start a stream. Away from home, wake goes through PlayStation Network and needs Pro on a PS5.

Set up rest mode before you need it

Do this while you can use the console's screen. Linking a local console needs it awake too, so finish that part before leaving it in rest mode.

1. On PS5, open Settings → System → Remote Play and turn on Enable Remote Play for the user you want to play as.
2. Open Settings → System → Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode.
3. Turn on Stay Connected to the Internet.
4. Turn on Enable Turning on PS5 from Network. Both settings must be on for rest-mode Remote Play.
5. Link the console in PlayRoam while it is still awake. On Windows, choose Source → Local network, select the console and press Link. Use the number from PS5's Settings → System → Remote Play → Pair Device in the 8-digit code field.
6. Put the console into rest mode. When PlayRoam shows In rest mode · Start wakes it on Windows, press Start to wake it and begin the stream.

Check that it is resting, not off

Sony's power-indicator guide identifies solid orange as rest mode. No light means the console is powered off; solid white means it is on. If the light is blinking orange, the console is still entering rest mode.

Rest mode keeps the PS5 ready for the network wake request. Check for the orange light before you leave home. If someone has shut the console down fully, someone near it must turn it on first.

During Remote Play, the console wakes to run the game and supply the picture. Its solid white indicator confirms that it is on.

Start from a PC or Android phone at home

Home wake is included with free Remote Play and works with a linked console. Keep the device on the same home network as the PS5. On Windows, the console row says In rest mode · Start wakes it; on Android, it says Rest mode, wakes when you play.

You do not have to stand beside the console and press its power button for each session. Start playing in PlayRoam and the app sends the wake request. It retries every 10 seconds and gives up after 60 seconds if the console does not respond.

Wake your PS5 when you are away

With Pro, you can wake your PS5 and play from your Windows PC or Android device away from home. PlayRoam asks PSN to have the console join a Remote Play session. Pro costs $10 per month, covers both platforms and supports PS5 only for internet play.

Choose Source → Over the internet on Windows, or the Over the internet tab on Android, and sign in to PSN with the account used on your console. Keep Remote Play enabled and leave the PS5 in rest mode with both network settings on. PSN sign-in handles the connection without a local pairing code.

PlayRoam connects directly over IPv4 with no relay, and some networks block the connection. The internet Remote Play guide covers network requirements and connection checks for play away from home.

If the console does not wake

After 60 seconds, PlayRoam reports that the console did not wake and asks you to turn it on and try again. Start by checking its power state, then confirm Enable Remote Play and both rest-mode network settings are still on.

For a home session, confirm you completed the local link while the PS5 was awake. For an internet session, confirm Pro is active and you signed in to the console's PSN account. Sony's connection checklist also calls for current console system software and a console connected to the internet while on or resting.

Turn the PS5 on manually if needed, confirm that a stream starts while it is awake, then put it back into rest mode and try Start again.
