PS Remote Play error codes for PS5 and PS4

By the PlayRoam team · Updated October 10, 2026 · 7 min read

Sony publishes the meaning of only a few PS Remote Play error codes: four mobile speed codes, an unstable mobile connection, a congested mobile network and a wrong pairing PIN. This page lists those, two PS4 connection codes explained by other sites, and the codes players report without any official meaning, with the checks to try for each. The checks apply to Sony's PS Remote Play app on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS, with PS5 or PS4.

Check PlayStation status before changing settings

Open PlayStation service status first if sign-in fails. Sony's sign-in troubleshooting says to wait for the service to recover when the status page shows an alert, then retry.

None of the codes below, by itself, proves a PSN outage. Sony's documented speed, congestion and pairing errors describe a different problem. If status is clear, follow the relevant section rather than treating every failure as a Sony-side incident.

The mobile code definitions come from Sony's Remote Play manual. Sony groups them by mobile data use, not by Android versus iPhone. Do not assume a Windows error with a similar number has the same definition.

80001FFF: cannot connect to the PS4

Appuals documents 0x80001FFF with the message "Cannot connect to the PS4" on Windows. Its article lists several possible causes, including security software and a failed automatic connection. Sony has not published its own definition, and the article covers PS4 only.

Try these checks in order, using Sony's current setup and troubleshooting instructions:

  1. Confirm that PS4 has Enable Remote Play on under Settings → Remote Play Connection Settings. Activate it under Settings → Account Management → Activate as Your Primary PS4 for the account you use.
  2. Sign in to the same PlayStation account on the console and Windows app. Update both the app and console software.
  3. Test the console's internet connection, then follow the network checks below.
  4. Put the PC and console on the same network. Open Settings → Remote Play Connection Settings → Add Device on PS4 and enter its displayed number in the app when asked to register manually.
  5. Check whether security software blocks PS Remote Play. Use an app-specific firewall exception rather than leaving protection disabled. Restart the app; reinstall it if Sony's earlier checks do not help.

For Windows crashes or a blank screen rather than a connection code, use PS Remote Play not working on PC.

CE-35398-8: PS4 cannot connect to the Remote Play device

PlayStation Universe describes CE-35398-8 as a PS4 connection failure with PC or Mac. This is an independent source, not a current Sony code-specific definition.

  1. Turn on PS4 and confirm Enable Remote Play is on.
  2. Check the same-account sign-in and primary-PS4 setup in Sony's PC and Mac instructions.
  3. Allow PS Remote Play to send and receive data through your PC or Mac's firewall. Do not leave the firewall disabled.
  4. Retry on the same network. If discovery fails, use PS4's Add Device number for manual pairing, then work through the network checklist below.

CE-35413-6: incorrect Remote Play PIN

Sony's definition of CE-35413-6 is "The PIN code for Remote Play is incorrect." Sony says to enter the correct PIN.

  1. Return to PS4's Settings → Remote Play Connection Settings → Add Device screen.
  2. Enter the number currently displayed there, checking each digit. For manual registration, keep the console and client on the same network.
  3. If registration still fails after entering the current number, follow Sony's account and connection checks below.

Changing internet speed or waiting for PSN will not correct a mistyped pairing number. The pair-device guide also explains why a pairing code and a console login passcode are different.

0x81221101, 0x81221104, 0x81221105 and 0x81221106: insufficient speed

Sony groups these four codes together under mobile data troubleshooting: the connection does not have sufficient speed to use Remote Play.

  1. Test from a location with a stable, sufficiently fast mobile connection. Sony recommends at least 5 Mbps upload and download; its support page recommends at least 15 Mbps for best performance.
  2. Pause other downloads and check the console's connection as well as the phone's connection.
  3. Check your mobile plan for speed or data limits. Ask your carrier about restrictions if speed stays too low.
  4. Try Wi-Fi instead, starting a new session after changing networks. Sony says switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data during Remote Play disconnects the session.

0x81121102: unstable connection

Sony defines 0x81121102 as an unstable connection during mobile data use. Its advice is to move to another location or wait and try again.

  1. Stop moving with the phone and try a location with a steadier connection.
  2. Wait, then reconnect. Avoid switching between mobile data and Wi-Fi during the session.
  3. If the error continues, start a new session on another network and check the console's internet connection.

If you can connect but the picture stutters, use the Remote Play lag guide.

0x81221103: mobile network congestion

Sony defines 0x81221103 as congestion on the mobile network. It says waiting and trying again may allow a connection.

  1. Wait a while, then retry.
  2. If it persists, try another location or start a new session on Wi-Fi.
  3. Contact your carrier if mobile data consistently fails. Sony warns that the carrier's network structure or plan can prevent Remote Play.

Codes without a confirmed Sony definition

We could not find a Sony code-specific definition for 88010E0F, 8801330d, 88013306 or 8801330f in the Sony references used here. Do not assign them a definite cause from the number alone.

Use the message alongside the code, check PlayStation status if sign-in fails, and follow the general connection checklist below. If you contact PlayStation Support, include the exact code, device, app version and whether it fails at home or only on another network.

General connection checklist for PS5 and PS4

These steps follow Sony's troubleshooting page and Remote Play manual. They are connection checks, not promises to fix a particular undocumented code.

  1. Check PlayStation status if sign-in fails. Confirm the console and app use the same account.
  2. Update the console software and PS Remote Play app. Enable Remote Play for the correct PS5 user, or enable it and activate the primary console on PS4.
  3. Test with the console awake. For rest-mode access, enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network on PS5, or the equivalent Enable Turning on PS4 from Network setting on PS4. See remote wake setup.
  4. Test the console's internet connection. On PS5, open Settings → Network → Connection Status → Test Internet Connection. On PS4, use Settings → Network → Test Internet Connection.
  5. Test near the console before playing away. If discovery fails, manually pair on the same network using PS5's Pair Device or PS4's Add Device number.
  6. On Android or iOS, enable Settings → Mobile Data → Use Mobile Data in Sony's app if you intend to use cellular data. Your carrier may still restrict the connection.
  7. Check security software for an app-specific block. Sign out and back in, restart the app and device, then consider reinstalling if the earlier checks fail.

Sony's network requirements and port guidance

Sony specifies at least 5 Mbps upload and download and recommends at least 15 Mbps for best performance. Use Ethernet for the console and PC or Mac where possible, or 5 GHz Wi-Fi for the client. Pause downloads on other devices before comparing results.

Sony identifies UDP port 8572 for Remote Play. If it is blocked, ask your ISP, router manufacturer or mobile carrier for help. Its manual describes router port forwarding as a possible remedy, not a guarantee. This guide does not recommend extra port lists from forum posts.

Check NAT type in Sony's app: Settings → Information on Windows, Preferences on Mac, or Settings → NAT Type on mobile. Sony warns that NAT Type 3 or an unavailable NAT type can prevent Remote Play. Take that result to your provider if changing networks does not help.

PlayRoam's free network check can help compare the networks available to you. It checks IPv4 connectivity, download speed and round-trip time to PlayRoam. It does not contact your console, test home upload or guarantee PSN access, and it does not repair Sony's errors. For a failure that happens only away from home, read the internet Remote Play guide.

Questions and answers

Does every PS Remote Play error code mean PSN is down?

No. Sony documents mobile codes for insufficient speed, unstable connections and mobile congestion, as well as an incorrect pairing PIN. Check PlayStation status for sign-in problems; a code alone does not prove a Sony outage.

What does PS Remote Play error 80001FFF mean?

Appuals documents 0x80001FFF as Cannot connect to the PS4 in Windows Remote Play. It is a failed connection, not proof of one specific cause. Check console setup, the account and network, then try manual pairing on the same network.

What port does Sony recommend for Remote Play?

Sony's Remote Play troubleshooting documentation identifies UDP port 8572. Ask your ISP, router manufacturer or mobile carrier for help if it is blocked. Sony also warns that NAT Type 3 or an unavailable NAT type can prevent Remote Play.

How much internet speed does PS Remote Play need?

Sony specifies at least 5 Mbps upload and download and recommends at least 15 Mbps for best performance. Test the console's connection and the device's network; a fast download result does not establish the console's upload speed.

Can PlayRoam fix Sony's Remote Play error codes?

No fix is promised. PlayRoam's free browser network check measures download speed, round-trip time to PlayRoam and IPv4 connectivity on the current network. It does not contact your console, measure home upload or guarantee PSN access.
